Tyler Holtz

 

 

Tyler was named to the Associated Press First Team All-State and Player of the year for the 2020 season as a quarterback and was a candidate for State of Michigan Mr. Football award. He was also named to the Detroit Free Press First Team All-State, Detroit News First Team All-State, Lansing State Journal Class A All-Area Player of the Year, Michigan High School Football Coaches Association First Team as well as CAAC Red Division All-Conference quarterback. Holtz is the second DeWitt player to be named All-State as a junior (Jacob Johnson the first) along with junior receiver Tommy McIntosh this season. During a trying year with an on-again-off-again season due to Covid-19 virus, Tyler's consistent play helped spearhead the Panthers to the Division 3 State Championship at Ford Field. With a wealth of excellent skilled players around him, Tyler led Coach Rob Zimmerman's most ever diverse offense from wishbone to single-wing to five wide and everything in between, sometimes on the same offensive series. With Tyler under center, DeWitt rolled to 494 points (44.9/gm) and school record 4,290 yards (386/gm)  in only eleven games. He had two games of over 300 yards passing and one of over 400. DeWitt's blow out win over Warren DeLaSalle propelled Holtz's name around the State. Armed with a cannon and laser sights of a right arm, he completed an impressive 66% of his 185 passes with only two interceptions. His season stats, 122 completions for 2,396 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also ran for 452 yards and four touchdowns. 

Update 2021: Tyler was named to the Associated Press First Team All-State and runner up for State of Michigan Mr. Football award. He was also named to the Detroit Free Press First Team All-State, Detroit News First Team All-State, Lansing State Journal Class A All-Area Co-Player of the Year, Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Dream Team as well as CAAC Red Division All-Conference quarterback. Once again, with the two time All-State quarterback under center in Coach Rob Zimmerman's complex offense, the #1 statewide ranked Panthers made it to the Division 3 State Finals falling a foot short of their second straight championship. Holtz started the season with a 15 of 27, 353 yard, 6 touchdown performance in he "Battle of the Big House" at Michigan Stadium against highly ranked Traverse City Central. Once again loading his strong right arm with feather soft touch he passed for 2,885 yards on 152 of 245 passing with 41 touchdown passes. A true double threat QB, Tyler rushed for just shy of 1,000 yards on 156 carries and 11 touchdowns. Inserted into the defense early in the season, the defense improved with him on the field. A defensive highlight was a 71 yard "pick six" in the State Championship game.  

A three year varsity starter, his sophomore season was played as an H back on offense and cornerback on defense. His career statistics are tops on the Panther record books and high on some statewide records. 275 of 432 passing for a whopping 5,311 yards and 76 touchdowns with only seven interceptions. He also rushed for 1,396 yards on 236 carries for 15 touchdowns. Defensively, he finished with 44 solo tackles, 33 assists and three interceptions.

A 4.0 GPA student, Tyler will continue his football career at study pre-med at Brown University.
