Tyler was named to the Associated Press First Team All-State and Player of the year for the 2020 season as a quarterback and was a candidate for State of Michigan Mr. Football award. He was also named to the Detroit Free Press First Team All-State, Detroit News First Team All-State, Lansing State Journal Class A All-Area Player of the Year, Michigan High School Football Coaches Association First Team as well as CAAC Red Division All-Conference quarterback. Holtz is the second DeWitt player to be named All-State as a junior (Jacob Johnson the first) along with junior receiver Tommy McIntosh this season. During a trying year with an on-again-off-again season due to Covid-19 virus, Tyler's consistent play helped spearhead the Panthers to the Division 3 State Championship at Ford Field. With a wealth of excellent skilled players around him, Tyler led Coach Rob Zimmerman's most ever diverse offense from wishbone to single-wing to five wide and everything in between, sometimes on the same offensive series. With Tyler under center, DeWitt rolled to 494 points (44.9/gm) and school record 4,290 yards (386/gm) in only eleven games. He had two games of over 300 yards passing and one of over 400. DeWitt's blow out win over Warren DeLaSalle propelled Holtz's name around the State. Armed with a cannon and laser sights of a right arm, he completed an impressive 66% of his 185 passes with only two interceptions. His season stats, 122 completions for 2,396 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also ran for 452 yards and four touchdowns. A 4.0 GPA student, Tyler will continue his football career at study pre-med at Brown University. |
