Bryce Kurncz

Bryce was named to the Associated Press All-State First Team as a receiver for the 2022 season. He was also named to the Detroit Free Press First Team All-State, Detroit News First Team All-State, Michigan High School Football Coaches Association FirstTeam and the Lansing State Journal Dream Team. He was also on the Lansing State Journal All-Area team as a junior. Kurncz was also Capital Area Activities Conference Blue Division All-League in his junior (2021) and senior (2022) seasons.

Kurncz was a two year starter for DeWitt that had outstanding success with one trip to the state finals and semi-finals. He burst onto the scene in his first game starting as a receiver for the Panthers his junior season with a five reception, 150 yard and four touchdown performance in "the Big House" against Traverse City Central. Playing as second receiver to All-State receiver Tommy McIntosh, Kurncz often had single coverage and he flourished. He and McIntosh were perhaps the best one-two receiver punch in Panther history. If the ball were near Bryce, he caught it. His junior year saw 35 receptions for 635 yards and 10 touchdowns.

His senior season found him at receiver to begin. The innovative Coach Rob Zimmerman revamped his offense to get more touches for the talented senior. By week 3 against Detroit Catholic Central, he had 211 yards rushing and 105 yards receiving. He finished the season with 1,409 yards rushing (18 TDs) and 797 (11 TDs) receiving yards for 2,373 all purpose yards and averaged just shy of 200 all-purpose yards per game. His speed and uncanny moves let him rarely take a direct hit. He drew a crowd his senior year when lined up at receiver.

For his career, 1,559 rushing yards on 196 carries and 19 TDs and 1,382 receiving yards on 84 receptions for 21 TDs. As QB, he was 37 of 60 for 437 yards and five TDs. He also had 67 tackles with four interceptions.

Coach Rob Zimmerman said of his talented receiver/QB/running back/safety "Bryce had one of the greatest seasons ever on record as a high school football player in the State of Michigan. His versatility was beyond comprehension and his ability to make big plays was absolutely amazing. Add his 4.0 GPA and impeccable character and you have one outstanding student/athlete".
